Tuesday 2nd October 2012

A note to clients first of all today. We'll be running our twice annual "free trial" of Strikeline on the betting boards forum towards the end of the month for one week. As always, Strikeline clients will receive all selections first (prices are generally gone before they are posted), and only after plenty of time has been given for clients to get on are selections posted on the forum.

This achieves two things for us, it promotes the service, and it attracts new custom and keeps costs where they are. It means we don't have to advertise in the Racing Post and become a "big" service, and can afford to keep membership ceilings at the level they are at, meaning clients can get the prices we advise much easier than most services. We know it is an unusual business model, but it works and the proof is in the fact that most of our prices are obtainable - unlike many other services out there.

Just one selection for today on a poor day's racing.

2.30 Wolverhampton Tyson The Byson 4pts win @ 15/2 (Stan James, www.betpack.com, 7/1 generally)

A bit of a boom or bust selection that could win by five lengths or finish tailed off. Tyson The Byson is bred to be a sprinting two year old on the all weather, but showed nothing on his first four starts. His fourth start came after a break between July and September which would suggest he had been difficult to train. However his last run at Musselburgh was an improvement, he led but pulled too hard, and once headed battled on gamely to the line against a rival rated OR68. Being out of Byron and a half brother to Captain Dimitrios, he should improve for the switch to this surface and a draw in stall five might be no bad thing given how wide runners were suited on Saturday night. First time blinkers are applied and the excellent Martin Harley takes the ride. He is entered on a winnable weight and unlike many of these, he has a relatively recent solid piece of form to his name which suggests physical well being will not be a problem.
