Monday 3rd December 2012

A tough few days to finish last week, all our selections are running well but without winning. Philip Makin's misjudgement of pace on Saunta Saturday evening was as bad as I've seen, had he taken a prominent sit from stall for I have no doubt we'd have collected. In fairness, the filly is not Zenyatta and shouldn't be ridden as such. I very rarely criticise jockeys but it it merited in this instance.

Two for this afternoon.

1.55 Wolverhampton Novabridge 5pts win @ 9/2 (Generally, get guaranteed)

Has the plum draw for one who likes to front run, and is partnered with a good 3lb claimer who has won on him before. He goes well fresh, is a course and distance winner, and was third in this race last year. The opposition for the most part are very ordinary, Colourbearer would be the exception but he looked a run or two off his best last time out and I think he will need further sharpening after a summer break. 9/2 on the selection looks very fair in my view, and if the jockey judges the pace right I think he'll win.

5.20 Kempton Good Authority 2pts each-way AND 1pt win @ 14/1 (Bet 365, VC Bet, Stan James, Betpack.com, independents)

I pointed out a few weeks back that Good Authority was still progressive, but he was done by a slow pace and probably his draw last time he ran over course and distance. Lingfield patently did not suit last time, nor the slow pace, and a chance is taken he gets a gallop to run at this evening from stall two. I think he is still well handicapped off OR84 and the form of that Leicester win continues to work out nicely. He is the right price, and I fancy him to reverse Lingfield form with Delft given a truly run race.
