Saturday 8th December 2012

Two selections for Saturday. A great day's National Hunt action but I don't see any standout bets and it is still the part of the season that I like to watch and wait apart from the top class stuff.

1.10 Lingfield Masters Blazing 4pts win @ 5/1 (VC Bet, guaranteed, 9/2 generally guaranteed)

Represents a yard who could win with the stable cat at the moment, such is their good form. Masters Blazing is the only three year old in this line up and as such is in a good position to take advantage of a generous weight for age allowance. He is also the best handicapped horse in the field, the major caveat is that he is stepping right up in distance this afternoon. However, his trainer has plenty of previous form when stepping horses up in trip, and although there is little in his pedigree that suggests it is the right move, I am inclined to put some trust in his trainer given the poor opposition. Adam Kirby is riding the track well and gets the leg up here.

1.40 Lingfield Dark Lane 2pts each-way AND 1pt win @ 12/1 (Generally, get guaranteed) - E/W 3rd

A really interesting sprint despite its selling status. Dandy Nicholls isn't really in form and despite his pair being top rated, I am inclined to take them on, especially given that they both might want the lead. Nicholls does have a history of success in selling races but Amenable looks better on fibresand and both horses have been woefully out of form. Beat The Bell is probably a deserved favourite, but looks short enough, as does Fathsta. Dark Lane represents a trainer whose horses are really coming into form, and he has no issues surrounding his recent form or ability on the surface. Adam Kirby returns to the saddle, having won on him on his penultimate run, and despite having a bit to find on the book he appeals plenty given the poor profile of some of those ahead of him in the market. His trainer tends to improve these sorts during the winter and Dark Lane strikes me as a typical example.
