2.10 Wolverhampton Wiggo 1pt each-way AND 1pt win @ 50/1 (VC Bet, Stan James, Betpack.com, William Hill, independents, guaranteed)
For a seller this is actually quite an interesting contest, and I am inclined to hit one out of the ballpark with a big priced selection, given the fact that the odds on favourite has never raced on this surface, and is a filly in second time blinkers - not guaranteed to react the same way this time as she did to them last time at Southwell. Added to that, this looks a bit better than the race she won last time, and Sofis Spirit is likely to take her on for the lead. Wiggo is hardly bred in the purple, and he only cost the price of the laptop I'm writing on, but he represents a stable whose horses are very much coming into good form, and there was a glimmer of hope about his debut at Lingfield in October. The selection was slowly away and very green on what was his debut, but he travelled well at various points during the race, making enough ground up after a tardy start to sit on the heels of the pack. It would have been nice to have seen a bit more from him, but he didn't lose any more ground than he forfeited at the start and given that he was barely able to turn the corner without displaying greenness, he did quite well to finish even where he did. What I am banking on here is that he improves mentally in terms of professionalism and application. If he does, he is drawn well to travel in behind the pace and hopefully finish well in the straight. It might be that he has little ability, but that glimmer of promise was enough for me to recommend a bet in a contest which, outside the first three and the selection, looks full of dead wood.
