Wednesday 27th February 2013

As I mentioned earlier, a really good card at Kempton this evening.

6.30 Kempton Bassett Road 2pts each-way AND 1pt win @ 10/1 (Generally, get guaranteed)

Travels really well and is worth another shot at the six furlong trip which he has won at once, at Haydock on good to firm ground. The selection's win over Jack My Boy looks all the more impressive in light of the latter's win at Lingfield on Saturday, and I think there is room to manoeuvre off this handicap mark. Stall 9 has to be overcome, but he travelled wide fir his last win and it may be he is happier coming around the houses - he doesn't need to sit on the lead anyway. Joe Fanning is in excellent form and takes the ride. His last two efforts on standard to slow polytrack and fibresand can probably be excused, indeed he again caught the eye on that fibresand debut with his cruising speed, but faded late on. The stable have sent him quite a distance to take his chance and I think the hint should be taken.

7.00 Kempton Pastoral Jet 2pts each-way AND 1pt win @ 11/1 (Stan James, Betpack.com, William Hill, guaranteed, 10/1 Generally guaranteed)

Seems to be to be a very progressive five year old in this sort of grade, and he can probably be trusted to put his best foot forward unlike many of these. He ran fully 10lb better than his handicap mark last time out, and despite a 3lb rise I think he is becoming a bit of a course and distance specialist. His young claimer has really impressed and he takes 5lb off. Double figures are too big, I chalked him up as 13/2 second favourite.
