One for this evening.
6.30 Newmarket Gentle Breeze 2pts each-way AND 1pt win @ 9/2 (Generally, get guaranteed)
This looks a relatively weak maiden and I'm not really keen on the favourite Lamar. A newcomer can probably win this and my eyes are drawn to the speedier bred of the Godolphin pair, Gentle Breeze. She is by Dubawi, out of a classy six furlong two year old winner, and makes more appeal first time up than Spellbind, who is a Shamardal half sister to Street Sense, and may be a little less precocious. The stable have a fantastic 16/49 33% strike rate with juveniles at this track, returning a profit of £18.07 to the pound stake. I'm glad to see Martin Lane get a nice ride for high profile owners like this, and I think his mount might go close. We'll play each-way and win.

Afternoon bets:
We were unlucky with Broadcaster getting collared late on yesterday having traded 1.06 in running.
Just one for this afternoon, possible evening bets will follow before 5.30pm.
Made a really nice debut for James Given in a strong looking York maiden over five furlongs, staying on really powerfully late on when she got the hang of what was required. Given has had a couple of fair two year olds out this year and they seem to improve markedly for their first run, this filly is nicely bred and if she improves on her debut effort she ought not to be far away here. James Fanshawe's Aqlaam Hunt appeals on paper as a danger, but Merletta was heavily backed this morning and it would put me off any speculative interest because both represent Newmarket trainers and anyone who thinks they don't talk is living in dreamland. There has been rain at Doncaster, my feeling on breeding and looking at the selection's action is that she should handle it and I think 8/1+ is a couple of points too big.
