This horse will always be a favourite of ours after we were on him to win at 50/1 when he broke his maiden at Southwell in January 2011. He is very much an in and out performer, who is something of a Southwell specialist, but he does handle testing conditions on turf and the heavy ground today will play into his hands. Indeed he was second in this race last year off 1lb higher, and although he has not found form in 2013 he has hardly had anything like optimum conditions until today - a pipe opener at Wolves was followed by a disappointing Southwell run which is excused on the basis of his draw - he raced along the near side rail which was disadvantaged - and fast ground at Beverley last time was never going to play to his strengths. He obviously acts at Windsor and now has his ground and a workable handicap mark. He is well drawn in stall eight to tack across and hopefully sit in midfield. Shawkantango is a very strong stayer at this trip, expect him to be doing all his best work at the finish when others are floundering. If his jockey can keep him interested early on, he should be able to take a hand in the finish.
