2.10 Yarmouth Ela Goog La Mou 1pt each-way @ 25/1 (Generally, get guaranteed) AND 1pt win @ Betfair SP
One thing noticeable about this contest is the lack of pace in the race. Ela Goog La Mou is accustomed to front running tactics, having almost executed them to shed her maiden tag at Brighton in September. The fact that she has been off since tempers enthusiasm somewhat, but she comes from a family who her trainer knows well and there is a chance she will act well on this heavy ground having coped well with soft at Yarmouth. Many of her siblings were front runners, and the booking of a jockey who is also familiar with the family and very dangerous when assuming front running tactics is really interesting. Stall two convinces me that she'll be sent into an early lead (possibly a clear one) and those tactics can sometimes pay dividends at Yarmouth. There is no doubt she has to improve, and she is out of the handicap, but I find it interesting she shows up here rather than tackling an easier engagement at Kempton on Thursday. There is just a chance her trainer feels she has improved and he might want to climb the handicapping ladder with her before opportunities on this ground are exhausted with the end of the season looming.
6.10 Wolverhampton Dawn Calling 5pts win @ 6/1 (Generally, get guaranteed)
It all came together for Dawn Calling at Catterick three starts ago, but the six furlong handicap at Hamilton and heavy ground contest at Catterick he contested last week have not been suitable tests for him in my view. The return to a left handed track and polytrack surface is taken to bring about further improvement this evening. His sire Shamardal gets progeny who are significantly better on the all weather than turf, and the evidence of the selection's sole polytrack run would suggest he does enjoy the surface (was still green). It also suggests he might be well handicapped on it off OR77. He has obviously been a slow learner, having made his debut as a three year old, but the Catterick win suggested there may be a fair bit more to come as he progresses, and I have a feeling there might be a fruitful winter ahead for him.
