Wednesday 8th January 2014

One bet for this afternoon, we may have an evening bet, details before 4pm either way.

3.10 Lingfield El Mirage 1pt each-way AND 3pts win @ 20/1 (Bet 365, Bet Victor, guaranteed, 18/1 Coral, William Hill, guaranteed)

I don't think this is the strongest sprint for the grade, and many of these struggle to win. Smokethatthunders probably deserves to be favourite, but El Mirage is 7lb better off with him for a 1 1/2 length defeat at Kempton last June and she looks interesting at the prices. Her trainer has said that she is a big filly who had problems as she grew, and it is interesting she won in April last year having been off since the previous November. It is possible she is best fresh, and the market doesn't seemed to have picked that up today. The excellent Robert Winston is booked; he has been in fine form. Trainer Dean Ivory's string have perhaps been a tad below their best but you would expect his good spring all weather horses to be coming out now and El Mirage might fit into that category. She has a big stride and a decent turn of foot on her day, and there is probably few better than her trainer at improving young sprinters these days. None of her rivals could be described as hugely progressive, or setting a high standard on form, and although she is drawn wide, the presence of some known front runners could set this up for her coming fast and late down the outside.
