Massena doesn't set a huge standard here in my view, and he might be vulnerable to something that improves for today's race conditions. Some of these don't look like they'll make the grade as chasers, and some are ok without looking like they have much in the way of class (Brassbound and Bin End come to mind here). I'd like to take a chance on chase debutant Islandmagee. I find it interesting he was very well backed for a heavy ground hurdle at Chepstow last time out, connections presumably feeling he was in good order and would handle the ground like many of his sire Heron Island do. He ran well enough, but jumped big at times, in the manner of a horse who had perhaps been schooling over fences. He clearly didn't respect his hurdles and I'm taking the chance that the larger obstacles are the making of him. He is a nice looking horse who has some decent hurdles form, including a third on soft ground behind Valdez at Plumpton and a win at Kempton where he showed plenty of spirit in the finish. This isn't much of a race, and at a decent price he makes plenty of appeal.
